Charity Race & Hawaiian
Beach Party
Since being run last year as a charity race,
the Lady Skippers’ Race is now a popular fixture on
the CSC calendar - not just for lady skippers but also
for anyone dressed in pink. This year the ‘Pink’
Charity / Lady Skippers’ Race was run in aid of The
Robbie Simpson Trust to fund research into cardiomyopathy.
The charity was set up in the name of Robbie Simpson who died
this year aged 19 and is run through the Mater Hospital.
Ten boats started the race but by the end only three were
still in the running due to the rough conditions. Whitebear
was the only class one boat to finish while Cousin Daisy won
class 2 with Flying Fish coming second. There were CSC prizes
for all three boats, and steak dinners provided by The Bayview
Hotel for the winning cres.
In all, CSC raised over €1000, with skippers being very
generous with their ‘voluntary’ registration fee,
and crews enthusiastically raising sponsorship funds. One
boat actually raised €200 in sponsorship.
The race was followed by prize-giving and a Hawaiian Beach
Party in the boat park. There was a raffle for cocktails (the
Pina Coladas made by Elaine McKernan were especially good).
The food was delicious.
The wind and rain did not deter anyone from having a good
time - check out the Limbo dancers in the photo. When
it got too cold to stay out, the stragglers moved into the
new ‘clubhouse’ for a karaoke evening, the highlight
of which was The Full Monty from Martin, Marty and Jonathan
!
Ron on next year’s Lady Skippers / Pink Race, when the
winners of this year’s race get to choose the charity.
So get thinking, Whitebear and Cousin Daisy !
