Rules Meeting
A rules meeting has been arranged for Friday 31st March at 8.00 p.m. in the "Hut", the Boatyard, Courtown. Paul Murphy an ISA National Rules Officer will attend to present and give a question and answer session. All are welcome including dinghy racers.
The 2006 Calendar
The calendar is printed and I hope with no errors!!! Our hard-working race committee has tried to incorporate all points made at the meeting last November and I am confident the good suggestions will improve the racing greatly this year.
Firstly please try to make it to the Skippers and OOD’s meeting on Sat May 6th.
Martin has emailed all skippers regarding IRC and if you haven’t got a call please give him a shout yourself. He will fill you in on all details. He is also organising the helm championship, which promises to be very interesting! Entries to Martin by March 17th.
The Arklow-Courtown Championship (A & C) races will comprise 4 days racing. 2 days of the Kilmichael Challenge and a further two days - one in Courtown and one in Arklow. The normal discard rules will apply as agreed between the Arklow race committee and our committee depending on how many races are run. The important thing is a boat must race in an away event i.e. a Courtown boat must race in the Arklow race and visa versa in order to qualify to compete. Arklow have also expressed an interest in racing to Cahore on the same day as our Strand Bar Trophy race.
Arklow Sailing Club are planning to change the format of the south east regatta somewhat. They hope to include an additional race on the Saturday evening and make it a three-race regatta. This is to try to help competitors who have a clanger in one race to allow them to make up ground by having an extra race. They will be keeping us informed of developments and I will pass on ASAP.
An under 18 helm race is included and this will run along the lines of the former ladies skippers’ race. We have included a night race as well for good measure.
You will also see the inclusion of a double race on selected Saturdays. This will comprise of two approximately one hour races and will involve "an on the water" OOD (not "in the water") weather permitting. The starts will be upwind starts.
So here’s looking forward to an enjoyable racing year and best of luck to all competitors and good luck to Courtown Boats in all ‘outside’ events too.
