A very successful dinghy regatta was run by Courtown Sailing Club on Sat/Sun August 14/15. A large entry of 45 boats, with over 60 sailors, took part over the two days, including visitors from Wicklow, Dublin Bay and Arklow, comprising of Topper Topaz, Toppers, Picos, Laser 1 and Laser 2. Showers and strong winds heralded the start of the event on Saturday morning with gusts catching even the more experienced competitors off guard, but conditions gradually improved, so that sunshine brought the first day to a chose, 4 races having been completed.
The second day presented even more challenging breezes, averaging 16 knots, but again the full race card was completed successfully. In the end, Laser One sailor Brian Flahive from Wicklow emerged victorious in the Class Ones, closely followed by Courtown sailor Conor Kinsella. Helming the Topper in Class Two, local boy Simon Doran was unbeatable with 5 first places, with Ian Byrne, also from Courtown Sailing Club, proving a creditable secong place.
At the prize giving, CSC Commodore Iain Biddulph congratulated organizer Paul Doran and his team for all their hard work, and in bringing this year’s event to such a satisfactory conclusion.
