Courtown Sailors Sweep the Boards at Munster Championship
Four Courtown sailors made the long drive down to Tralee last weekend for the Topper Munster Championship. Tralee Bay sailing club will also be the venue for the World Championships later this year, so it was a good chance for the sailors to get to know the area.
Saturday brought four races in light winds with all Courtown sailors getting good results. Stephen Duke got a second in one of the races and Philip Doran got two firsts.
Sunday brought more light winds and racing was postponed for an hour. Eventually some wind filled in and one race was held which was won by Philip Doran, securing him the title of Topper Munster champion. Local CSC sailor Aoife Hurney also had some brilliant results earning her the First Lady trophy. Stephen Duke succeeded in winning first under 14 and Elaine Murphy also had a good event.
A great time was had by all as Courtown talent continues to shine.
I'm off to Holland tomorrow where Philip and Ruth Harrington are racing in a three day Europa-Cup event as part of the newly formed ISA Laser 4.7 squad. The event is open to all European nations. http://www.laserklasse.nl/ile/
Not bad for CSC members to get two places on a national squad of six members in total (North and South)! regards,
Paul
