Courtown Sailor wins National Sailing Event: The Topper Irish National Championships were held 27-29 July 2007 at East
Down Yacht Club, Killyleagh, Co Down.
There were 59 sailors at the event from all over Ireland, including 8 from
Courtown Sailing Club, and 15 of Great Britain's top junior sailors. The event took place over three days with three to four hour-long races each day. Conditions were ideal with fine weather and moderate winds. Thirteen year old Philip Doran from Courtown Sailing Club stamped his mark on the event early on, winning two of three races and leading the field
after day one. He subsequently went on to win the Irish Topper National Champion 2007 title. Sailing is an all-island sport and this is the first time, since it's inception in 1989, that the title has come south of the border. Other sailors from Courtown SC that took part in the event include: Gavin Mullins, Elaine Murphy, Stephen Duke, William O'Morchoe, Ian Byrne, Ruth
Harrington, Aoife Hurney, and Conor Greagsbey.

Replacement Rib: A second hand rib has been purchased to replace the Avon Searider which was stolen from the boat yard two weeks ago. It is also an Avon Searider (same size and colour) with a Mariner 40hp engine. It was purchased at Rossbrin boat yard near Schull Co. Cork. Thank you to Coleman Doyle for inspecting it before purchase and for transporting it back from Cork.

Message from the Commodore : It has been brought to my attention recently that club organisers and committee members have been receiving phone calls with regard to club business at some very late hours of the night or early hours of the morning. Please remember that our club is run on a voluntary basis, committee members have their own families, are not paid and give of their time freely. With this in mind please do not phone them after 21.00hrs. unless it is urgent.

Topper Leinster Championships: Eight dinghy sailors from Courtown Sailing Club competed in the Topper Leinster Championships which was held last weekend. The event was organised by the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire and was sailed out in Dublin Bay. There were three races planned for Saturday and Sunday, but with gusts of up to 35 knots, the fleet was held ashore on Saturday. In contrast, conditions were near perfect on Sunday with a steady breeze of 10-15 knots. The Doran brothers continued their recent successes with Philip finishing 2nd overall and Simon 3rd place overall for the championship. Ruth Harrington fnished 2nd Lady (16th overall). Other club members who competed were Ian Byrne, Conor Greagsbey, Aoife Hurney, Stephen Duke, Elaine Murphy and William O'Morchoe.
