About Cruiser Sailing
Cruiser Racing generally takes place every Saturday between the months of
May and October starting at 2 p.m. The format is usually "Round
the Cans" - picked from a number of pre-set courses around marks
positioned outside the harbour. The details of each race are posted
on the Club notice board in the Bayview Hotel 1 hour prior to the
start.
When not racing "Round the Cans", the Cruisers can be found
on their way to another Club on the East coast - with races to Wexford,
Arklow and Wicklow each year, as well as numerous
onslaughts to The Strand Bar in Cahore. The racing is never boring
in Courtown!
As with most Clubs, crew can be hard to come by, good crew even harder
or according to some skippers, can't be found at all! To combat this
problem, this May we are commencing a series of talks on learning
how to sail. From May 25th to June 29th, anyone wanting to learn how
to sail can come along to the Bayview Hotel where some of our more
experienced sailors will pass their knowledge on.
To allow our learners to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice,
the Wednesday League has been resurrected. Starting on Wednesday,
30th May at 7 p.m. (or thereabouts!) the cruisers will again take
to the water to battle it out each Wednesday until 4th July for the
Bolger Trophy (kindly sponsored by Bolger's Hardware in Gorey).
