Formula One Nationals 2004
Rutland Water in England was the venue again for the Formula One Nationals for
2004. Four of our club boats travelled to the championship with 11 Irish crew.
The event consisted of 2 races on Friday in light winds 3 on Saturday in moderate
winds which the Irish boats preferred and two in Sunday. By Saturday evening
Jou Jou was in a lead position but there were a few close followers. Sunday
saw moderate to fresh winds and the end result was a very decisive win by Dermot
O Morchoe helming “Jou Jou” with his crew , Jonathan Sutton, Brian
Fenlon and Iain Biddulph (jnr). The newest Formula to Courtown “Hitch
Hiker” owned by Tom O Connor were in second place news has it that the
crew go well on Bacardi. Maybe the other Irish formulas should start talking
tactics to Tom, first visit to the Nationals and achieving a second place is
an enviable position!!! John Walsh helming “Typhoon” took fourth
place with crew Michael Jones Niall Mc Donagh, Robert Kinsella. “J. Ni
Mac” helmed by Bob Sherriff and crew Martin Crowe, Martin O Leary and
Monica Sherriff were in 6th place at the end of the event.
