An Interview with Philip Doran
Philip is 2009 ISA Youth Sailor of the Year. THE IRISH Sailing Association has crowned Gorey’s Philip Doran the 2009 ISA Youth Sailor for the second year in a row.
Philip is currently the under 17 Laser Radial World Champion.He was announced as the winner at the ISA Awards Dinner in Kildare recently. ISA Chief Executive Harry Hermon, and CSC member, congratulated Philip on his achievements, with two world championship titles under his belt in as many years, and noted that he is one to watch.
The ISA Youth Sailor award is presented to a young sailor who achieved outstanding results at an international event in the past year.
In 2008 Tralee Bay Sailing Club hosted the Topper World Championships where Philip placed fourth overall in the 176 boat fleet. Later in 2008, he competed in the Laser 4.7 World Championship, which he won. His achievements in 2008 were recognised at home when he was awarded ISA Youth Sailor 2008.
In 2009 he travelled to Japan to compete in the Laser Radial World Championship and came home the under 17 World Champion.
Philip is a member of Courtown Sailing Club and the ISA Academy and was congratulated on his success by the Courtown Commodore June Mahon who said Philip has worked extremely hard to get to where he is now as a sailor. ‘We wish him all the very best in the coming years,’ she said. ‘Philip has reached a standard and broken into an area of sailing that very few people ever get to.’
