Cruiser and Dinghy Sailing

Cruiser Sailing at Courtown SC

E-mail Print PDF

Cruiser sailing generally takes place every Saturday from mid April to the end of September each year.  Exact details of racing can be found on our Cruiser Race Calendar.

The format is usually "Round the Cans" - picked from a number of pre-set courses around marks positioned outside the harbour

When not racing "Round the Cans" the Cruisers can be found on their way to another Club on the East coast - with races to Wexford, Arklow and Wicklow each year, as well as numerous onslaughts to The Strand Bar in Cahore, the racing is never boring in Courtown.

As with most Clubs, crew can be hard to come by, good crew even harder and according to some skippers, can't be found at all! To combat this problem the Club tries to organise talks on learning how to sail along with some practical experience where some of our more experienced sailors will pass their knowledge on.  Check out our noticeboard for updates.

The Club also has Thursday night racing which allows our less experienced sailors to learn in a slightly more relaxed environment.  Check the racing calendar for start dates.

The dinghy area of the Club has grown beyond all recognition since it was started off the beach in nearby Ardamine in the 1980's.

Dinghy activities are based at the Boat Park on the South Beach at Courtown.  Dinghy racing usually takes place each Sunday morning between May and September, fun sailing on a Wednesday night and adult dinghy sailing on a Friday night.  Check the Dinghy Calendar for details of times and dates.

The ages of our dinghy sailors vary greatly from 10 to 60+! If you would like more information on becoming involved please contact us at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

If you are interested in doing a dinghy course please check out the Courses section of our site.
